Adult Students’ FAQs

What about adult students? How can you help us?

Of course! About a third to half of my client base lately has been adults either working toward a better relationship with math to work toward personal growth or as a way to access career advancement, even if you aren’t in a class or preparing for an exam. We can structure a program for you based on your personal goals and needs!

I realize I have a bad relationship with math. I want to end the cycle so that doesn’t affect my kids. Can you help?

Yeah, I’d love to! Research reflects that this is a really important step toward changing our collective attitudes toward math, so I want to thank you for being so considerate. We can structure a program for you based on your weaknesses, goals, and sensitivities!

I cannot understand my child’s homework and I can’t get any answers about it. Why can’t kids just learn like I did?

I understand homework today looks awfully different. And it really doesn’t help that many schools today don’t allow teachers as much room to set their curriculum based on what works for them. Sometimes these changes are not for the best, but usually there is really good reasoning for them. We all know adults who didn’t learn the material the way we were taught, in spite of their best efforts, and most of these changes are simply trying to ensure those cases are increasingly fewer. If you want a walkthrough and an explanation as to why the curriculum has changed, I’m happy to do some research and provide you some comfort and the know-how to answer their questions at home! After all, kids who report getting homework help from their parents report less math anxiety!
